Artist Statement
A solitary wine glass rises from the void like a fragile cathedral of light.
Rendered in luminous monochrome (charcoal and white on toned paper), it stands with impossible poise, its bowl a perfect sphere of captured breath, its stem a single, trembling exclamation of glass.
Rendered in luminous monochrome (charcoal and white on toned paper), it stands with impossible poise, its bowl a perfect sphere of captured breath, its stem a single, trembling exclamation of glass.
The highlights are not merely drawn; they are incised, silver blades of pure illumination that carve the form out of darkness.
Within the bowl, a ghostly architectural reflection hovers (an inverted ribbed vault seen upside-down), as though the glass secretly contains an entire gothic chapel made of absence.
The background is not empty; it is a slow, breathing black that presses inward, reverent and menacing at once.
Every gradation is hushed, every edge sharpened to the point of pain.
The entire drawing feels like a held note at the extreme edge of silence: exquisite, precarious, on the verge of shattering into light.
This is less a study of glass than a meditation on transparency itself (how something can be most visible when it contains nothing).
