Artist Statement – I paint the quiet moments when light decides to linger.
My still life’s are not about objects; they are about the conversation between illumination and shadow, between the thing seen and the thing felt. A copper pitcher, a half-empty glass of wine, a pair of apples resting on folded linen; these are ordinary things made extraordinary by the drama of a single, deliberate light source.
I work in the tradition of the 17th-century masters who understood that darkness is never truly black and that a highlight on curved glass can carry more emotion than a face.
With oil paint I chase precision, but never coldness. Every reflection, every subtle shift from warm to cool, every barely perceptible edge is placed to slow the viewer’s breath and invite pause.
The paintings are silent, yet they ask for silence in return. In an age of constant noise, I want my work to feel like stepping into a darkened room where time softens and the ordinary becomes sacred.
These are not pictures of fruit, vessels, or bottles.
They are small altars to attention.
