Artist Statement
This oil-on-canvas painting is a visceral, high-contrast abstract that pulses with dark romantic intensity.
Dominant vertical bands of deep crimson, burgundy, and near-black flow downward like molten lava or arterial streams, interrupted by luminous gold-amber streaks that flicker upward as if defying gravity.
The surface is richly textured—thick impasto ridges and drips create a sense of movement and weight, while thinner glazes allow underlying layers to bleed through, giving the illusion of depth and inner fire.
The composition is tightly vertical, almost figure-like, with the gold accents suggesting limbs or flames emerging from shadow.
The palette is restricted yet dramatic: warm reds and golds against cool, inky blacks, producing a mood of contained passion, danger, and transformation—evocative of both destruction and rebirth, like embers in a dying hearth or blood coursing beneath skin.

Poetic Lens
The vertical flow, intense color contrast, and sense of elemental force strongly recall Clyfford Still’s mature abstracts (1950s–60s), where jagged vertical ruptures of bright color tear through dark fields to convey raw emotional and psychological energy.
The fiery reds and golds emerging from black also echo Mark Rothko’s later, darker works, though here the forms are more gestural and less contemplative, leaning toward Still’s aggressive, almost violent dynamism.
The dripping and impasto texture nod to Jackson Pollock’s action painting, but in a more controlled, vertical orientation rather than all-over chaos.
In a contemporary context, the work aligns with neo-abstract expressionist or dark romantic painters like Anselm Kiefer (in its heavy, alchemical surface and themes of ruin/transcendence) or artists exploring fire and materiality such as Julie Mehretu (layered, energetic marks) and Cecily Brown (sensual, bodily abstraction with blood-red palettes).

Sold Unframed / Frame Recommendations
A slim (1–1.5 inch), matte black wooden frame with a simple, clean profile—no ornamentation. This reinforces the painting’s dark ground, lets the crimson and gold pop dramatically, and maintains a modern, gallery-ready presence. Pair with a narrow 1-inch white or off-white mat if desired for added breathing room, but floating the canvas edges (gallery-wrapped) works equally well for a bolder statement. Use UV-protective acrylic glazing to preserve the vibrant oils.
